What is the session format?
Each session is 90 minutes in duration.
First 60 minutes – Pupils will answer 2-3 past paper questions under timed conditions. I will then go through the model solutions with emphasis on exam technique and important information from the examiner’s report. We will then repeat the process and pupils will go through some more questions and I will then provide advice and feedback. This format is extremely effective as pupils are able to get instant feedback on their work and can make the necessary adjustments immediately. They can also concentrate for the duration of the session.
Final 30 minutes – Pupils will sit a ‘mini-mock’ and questions from a past paper. The topics selected will be those that appear year upon year and repeatedly feature prominently in every exam.
How long is the course?
The course will run in 6 week chunks. You will have the option of renewing for a further 6 weeks for the next session starting after the Easter break.
How big will class sizes be?
Each class will have a maximum of 10 pupils
Why is the exam board relevant?
AQA and Edexcel have different formats and need to be approached accordingly. We have closely examined the styles of both boards and knowing the expectations of your specific board will give you a measurable advantage.
Will specific topics be revised or taught?
These sessions are designed to get you exam ready with advice about how best to utilise the final few weeks, tips on exam technique and how to ensure you go into your GCSEs with a ‘mark scoring’ mindset. While the teacher will ensure that questions are explained, there won’t be the opportunity to teach any topic from scratch. We can however, point you in the direction of relevant resources for independent study.
Who are these sessions best suited to?
These sessions are ideal for those pupils who have covered the curriculum at school and are in the revision stages of their preparation. This is a place you can consolidate your knowledge, learn techniques and gain confidence for the upcoming exams. However, if you feel there are significant chunks of the curriculum that you still need to cover, these sessions might not be for you.
Is it possible to just do a mock exam without joining the course?
Yes, please enquire if you would be interested in attending a one-off mock exam.
What do the pupils do between sessions?
We have identified the key skills and areas of common misconceptions and designed daily drills that pupils can undertake. Most pupils will be able to do these in 15 minutes and they will ensure that their foundational skills are sharp and exam ready. We will mark these drills to ensure they are being done correctly and provide additional support as needed.
